Confidential Breed Club Health Survey
There is now a health survey available for Bullmastiff owners. This survey is for each and every Bullmastiff; the most loved pet, the agility star and the conformation champion alike, each Bullmastiff is very important and needs to be included.
Take the survey.
As of Nov. 2013 we have more than six hundred completed surveys. This is an excellent start! We would like participation from all owners on each and every dog they have ever owned.
Confidential DNA Repository
The DNA Repository collects and stores canine DNA samples to facilitate future research and testing aimed at reducing the incidence of inherited disease in dogs. Plan your own DNA blood draw in connection with an annual visit to your vet or watch for a DNA clinic at a Specialty Show near you.
Through participation in both the survey and the DNA blood donation we hope to gain knowledge and identify the health issues that are affecting Bullmastiffs today. Donate today.
Blood vs. Cheek Swap: Blood is the gold standard for genetic material; the yield of DNA is sufficient for all research methods, including technologies on the horizon. Moreover, the stability and purity of the DNA is of the highest caliber, which offers many benefits.
As of Nov. 2013 the DNA Repository contains donations from 40 Bullmastiffs. This sample is not large enough to begin any Bullmastiff specific research.
The Canine Health Information Center, also known as CHIC, is a centralized canine health database jointly sponsored by the AKC/Canine Health Foundation (AKC/CHF) and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). The purpose of CHIC is to provide a source of health information for owners, breeders, and scientists, that will assist in breeding healthy dogs.
