Left: Angela on Day One in rescue. Right: Angela the day she was adopted.
Eighteen month old Angela came into rescue from the Brooklyn shelter on Halloween in 2004 –
emaciated, weak, and heartworm
positive. Her timing couldn’t have been better, since we had just
lost our beloved elderly rescue girl Brandy, so a new foster girl was a welcome
distraction. Poor Angela – she was filthy and 40 pounds
underweight, but despite everything, she was as happy and outgoing as a dog
could possibly be!
She was a delight to care for – smart as a whip,
well-behaved, and dog-friendly. After about 6 weeks in foster care,
she was adopted by a wonderful family on Staten Island who include her in
everything. She goes to work, meets the bus, attends family gatherings –
what more could a beautiful young girl ask for? She visits the groomer
regularly and always comes home appropriately “dressed” for the
season. She is surrounded by toys, has comfy beds lurking in every
corner, and, most importantly, a family who loves her.
From humble beginning on the streets of Brooklyn, fending for herself, Angela has achieved true “star status” too! She was voted Pet of the Month in October 2005, a mere year after her rescue. And, she played the part of Barbara Bush in a “debate” sponsored by the Mayor’s Alliance of NYC where she lobbied against size discrimination. Her appearance was featured by the local Fox news channel that evening.
