Auggie was bailed out of Augora shelter in California in August, 2005.   The shelter staff knew him well, his name was King Kong and he frequently ended up at the shelter.  They said he jumped the fence where he lived a lot and ended up at the shelter.  Apparently, this time his owner didn’t claim him.  Auggie was very scarred, had numerous callouses from laying on cement and from fly bites.  He was pretty scarred from fights, probably when he was out roaming around.  Auggie was highly dog-aggressive when he came to Arizona.  Auggie lived with me at my house for a few months, then when the local MASH unit opened up to take overflow rescues, he went down there for a while.  The MASH UNIT was a converted former jail and Auggie got his very own cell.  The dogs were well socialized with the inmates who cared for them and Auggie was a big hit.  Due to his being a shelter dog, highly dog aggressive and older, he was not an easy placement.   Months went by and I was beginning to think I’d never find him a home of his own.

Then, one day in July, 2006, I get an application from a guy named Jeff, he’s a former police officer, previously owned a bullmastiff, lives alone, has no other dogs or critters, and he wants a male, age is no object…………..AUGGIE!!    I  was thrilled just thinking I might have a home for Auggie.  Well, Jeff goes down and meets Auggie at the MASH and I think it was love at first sight!   Though we rarely adopt to people in apartments, Jeff was between homes, and did live in an apartment.  I’d had Auggie long enough to know he would do fine in an apartment, and Jeff was able to take him to work with him some of the time.   Auggie had his forever home.   Through the months at the MASH  unit, with good food, good baths, blankets for bedding and a lot of crčmes and salves, most of the callouses and scars faded or went away.   Auggie and Jeff became four wheelin’ buddies  on the weekends.   Auggie finally had a life he deserved, comfortable cushions, good food, and a forever home with someone who loved him.   He now lives with Jeff in Tucson in a house with his very own big backyard and nice comfortable furniture.

Auggie today.
