Destiny was a hard one and my first Long Hair. She was covered in horrible lumps and bumps, and she had such a bad skin infection she was almost bald. She only weighed 65 pounds when we saved her from the shelter, and we went straight from the shelter to our vets office! There she was lathered up 4 times before she was relatively clean and the poor girl was so itchy that she wiggled thru the entire process!

Even though she'd had such a hard life, she was just the happiest teddy bear ever! She was starved for food and gladly ate the 4 meals a day we pumped into her, and took getting a bath every other day and soaking in special shampoos like a champ!

After major fund raising, and after she was well enough to withstand surgery, most of her lumps were removed. It was a painful experience for her and because we couldn''t keep the incisions closed, we moved her out to the desert where the hot dry air would help her recovery along.

Dessie, as we called her, was adopted by a lovely family that has someone home all day, every day so that Destiny could receive all the love and attention she so craved! She sleeps on the bed and is treated like a queen!

A note from Dessie's new mom:

Just thought I would touch base with you to let you know how wonderful Dessie is doing.  She plays all day with the Bassett hounds and gives kisses to my mom.  All of her wounds have completely healed and the bald spot on her tail has begun to grow back. She gets accupuncture every week so her gait has improved immensely. She sleeps in my bed with me and smiles in her sleep. I can't begin to tell you what a joy she is
