Grace’s Story

Week One

From the moment Amanda took me to the airport I knew I was I for a BIG day…but I wasn’t even a bit scared! I’m just not the scaredy type. I’m sure its because I’ve had so much love in my first nine weeks of life that I just know everything is always going to be wonderful for me. ‘Im a VERY lucky girl that my momma came into Rescue with me in her belly and right into Dr Reppart’s hands!!

My new people mom snuggled me right away so I felt safe with all the changes and we had a great afternoon at the airport. She’s very good smelling—lots of familiar doggy smells and some other new friends too that Ill have to meet when we get home to my new house in Pennsylvania. The day was full of lots of hugs and I especially liked going into that big good smelling tiled room and having fun tearing up the wee-wee puppy pad Mom put down for me! I didn’t have to pee so what else was I supposed to do with it? She peed I think but she didn’t want to use the wee-wee pad….hmm.

Everything was so fun and I looked around at everyone on the plane while they all made funny sounds at me! The snacks were great and everyone loved me of course, especially the steward who wouldn’t let Mom put me under the seat in my Sherpa bag. Instead I had my very own chair and seatbelt in the very first row of the plane!! I was tired and slept all the way to my new home.

Wow!!! I have a new Auntie Ciara and my uncle-Brother Nick!! They are so big and beautiful. Auntie Ciara is the boss and Nick justs wants to have fun—that’s ok with me!

I have a super snuggly crate, my own bowls and a billion toys! Nick and I play a lot and Ciara makes rules for both of us. We listen to her but are still having fun when she isn’t watching. Mom is showing me how to go outside to pee and poop and I am REALLY good at it. I also am great at naps and super good at devouring food which makes Mom very happy –but Nick would like it better if Id leave some for him. There’s so much to learn and everyone LOVES me. Hah! Of course they do!

Uh oh….I’ve discovered that there are three more friends in the house but they aren’t dogs! I guess they are cats (I saw some of those at Dr Reppart’s) but they don’t seem too interested in me…except for Simon, the Siamese. He likes to run up and pop me on the nose with his paw. I don’t mind at all. Ill just chase him when Im bigger which will be later this week. Right now I’m learning to leave old Natasha and fat Zoe alone. Zoe loves Ciara but she doesn’t seem to realize how wonderful I am yet.

Week Two

Whew…I have learned SO much and grown up to be a giant! I weigh 25 pounds now and here are some of the things I can do:

1.Poop and pee outside almost every time! Yowza…this makes Mom happier than just about anything in the world!

2. Sit and wait before I devour my meals (I get three everyday PLUS training snax…yummers…that’s worth sitting for!)

3. Go out into the giant grassy fenced yard with Ciara and Nick and Simon off the leash!! I know how to run and play games and I stay right with the big dogs (except when Simon and I do our under-the-bushes-chase circles. I am SO good at that!!

4. Ride in the car to see Dr Les and Dr Mike and to get weighed

5. Meet everyone in the entire world and guess what—Everyone LOVES me. I am so cute and awesome….well…its true…

Ciara speaks:

Well, mom couldn’t have picked a worse time to bring home a new trainee for me!! I was so worried about this new job that I fell into the pond and wasn’t feeling too well for a few days. But now I’m all better and Ill tell you-I’ve got this baby Beluga in line. She’s a good girl I guess…but she needs to learn that life isn’t all fun and games. Someone has to be serious around here sometime! I will admit she’s kind of cute and I think she sort of looks like me. Anyway, if my Mom loves her, Ill keep up the good work and help out with her training. I know mom can’t do it without me. I’ve already proven that with the job I’ve done with Nick! Boy…was he a piece of work.

Mr. Nick’s point of view:

Hey Mom—thanks for the crazy new baby!! I wasn’t 100% sure when she first showed up here, smelling funny and clearly ready to eat all my food…but you’re doing a good job of making sure I’m not missing out on anything to eat or on any of my hugs or alone time with you! I really have fun playing with Gracie. She’s a quick study and already learned the head bite game Ciara and I play every day. The only trouble is that when we don’t want her to join in, she keeps grabbing my tail and trying to run away with it!! Maybe she just isn’t too smart….but she is cute and its always nice to have another warm body by the fire….I think we’ll keep her.
